The History Center's archives are available for the public to use for research. While we are in our interim office, research can only be conducted by appointment. Please fill out the form below to let us know what information you are looking for and a member of our research team will reach out to you. You should allow 3 to 4 days for a request to be processed. We also recommend that you fill out your request 2-3 weeks before you need the information, as it will take time to find and pull the documents you request.
If you are interested in browsing newspaper archives, we recommend visiting the Cedar Rapids Public Library or using this digital archive. We do have some newspaper clippings, but the library and digital archives provide a more complete collection for general interest research. If you are interested in studying your family history, we recommend contacting the Genealogical Society of Linn County, Iowa. The Genealogical Society's library contains a collection of Linn Co. school and church records, mortuary records, cemetery records, Linn County obituaries, Bible records, diaries, family genealogies, misc. photographs, Cedar Rapids city birth records 1921-July 1970 and death records 1894-June 1970 along with information from other states.
Please note that if you do not plan to use materials yourself and wish for someone in our office to do the research for you, there are fees that apply.
