What to Expect at a Haunted Alley Tour

Haunted Alley tours return this October. While you’re not likely to see any goblins or ghouls, you will be encountering Cedar Rapids’ hidden history! These tours cover many of the locations seen on our Downtown walking tours, but from the alleys behind and between buildings. This is a side to Cedar Rapids that is often overlooked and is sure to make for a fascinating (and slightly spooky!) tour. This year the tours will even have a surprise ending at a local business!

While these tours are similar to our regular tours, there are a few things to keep in mind:

Alleys can be dirty, so we recommend that you bring old walking shoes that you won’t mind getting a little muddy. You’ll also want to make sure that shoes are close-toed for your safety.

While not required, we do suggest bringing a flashlight or ensuring that your phone is charged enough to be used as a flashlight. We’ll have volunteers to help you stay with the group (these tours are often larger than our regular tours), but having your own light will make it easier to navigate the small spaces.

Warm Clothing

October in the Midwest can be a chilly month, so be sure that you check the forecast and dress appropriately. Keep in mind that this tour will take place after dark, so the weather is likely to be cooler than it was during the day. Layers are highly recommended.

As with all of our outdoor tours, there’s no need to make reservations in advance. Admission will be accepted on the day of the event, approximately 15 minutes before the start of the tour. Admission prices are $7 for the general public and $5 for members of The History Center. If you’re not a member, you can purchase a membership here. Tours will start at the Town Centre Plaza at 6 PM on October 10 and 24.
